Dirt is really fun for kids.  Dirt is everywhere at camp.  Therefore, kids love camp.

I love camp.  I don’t love dirt.  But here are pictures of lots of dirt because I love camp in spite of the dirt.

Sunny Saturday at Susie’s

Did you like my successive series of similar sounds? Okay, cheesy joke is over, on with the show!  I took a bunch of pictures when we all got together last Saturday at Susie’s house, but these are my very favourites.  Unfortunately, I don’t think I had my camera out when the Fontaine cousins were there, but we did get some videos of all of the kids, so when I get around to it, they might pop up on this site.

First, Kate as the Little Slugger.  She loves T-ball, especially putting the ball on the tee.  Her cousins were extremely patient and let her have her turn, even though they are all big enough to hold and swing a bat properly and she isn’t (I’m not counting Immanuel in this description … he’s a bit little yet).

This is how Kate bats.  She is going to be the next Babe Ruth.

I know that some of you who read our blog are familiar with our family and the story of Jeremiah.  If not, check it out, it’s really worth the read.  All of our nieces and nephews are wonderful and precious in their own way, but I have to highlight how terrific JJ is for two reasons: 1) Kate is pretty much his twin in girl form.  It’s pretty crazy.  They even have some of the same personality traits and are more like brother and sister than cousins.  2) He’s turning 5 soon and I am so happy that although his birth and the months after it were splendid reminders of God’s love and grace, he now has the normal life of a normal almost five-year old.  I am very thankful that God has protected his young life and made him into the caring boy he is today.  We love you, JJ!

Kate is really hilarious these days.  She’s really starting to talk a lot and try new things.  She dances and sings daily, is a challenge and a blessing to us and has just changed our lives in ways we never dreamed of.  She’s adorable (not ‘worshippable’, of course … you know what I mean).

Here’s our sister celebrating her birthday a little ear-Li …

And here is cute little Seth playing with Kate.  I’m so impressed with how Seth plays with Kate – it gives me hope that Kate will be nice to little kiddies when she’s a year older.  Here they were running around and dancing (to no music) together. Gotta love happy kids!  It’s terrific to see how all of the cousins play together, and 95% of the time (because they are human + kids, after all) get along so well.  Each of them is unique and bright and cute and precious.  Praise the Lord for our children!

We’re Ba-ack!

You know it’s been longer since the last update when people start to wonder if you’ve died – but nope, we’re still alive!  We’re very grateful for all of you who read, pray, glance at our site from time to time – we appreciate your caring interest in the mundane details of our lives and hope you are blessed with us when we share them with you.  There is a pretty high probability that during the next few days we will send you a deluge of photos and anecdotes.  We’ve been enjoying our taste of government vacations!  We’ve had a pretty busy summer so far.  After almost a year of living in this house, we’ve finally managed to paint our bedroom a respectable neutral colour – the place is still a horrible mess (as is the rest of the house for that and other reasons), but the colour does wonders for my earthly peace of mind.

On the spiritual peace of mind front, we just enjoyed a wonderful week of blessings at Camp des Bouleaux with most of the Charpentiers & co.  And last Saturday, we actually managed to be all together for the day at Susie’s house (thank you for dealing with our ‘KAOS’ … or just chaos for those of you who have never seen Get Smart/Get Smart Again).  More pictures of that and camp coming soon – I have already edited my favourites from last Saturday, but just had to share these cute ones of Kate and my mom from a little earlier this month.  And in case you’re wondering about the blurriness, that’s called May-hasn’t-perfected-the-manual-function-on-her-camera-but-will-work-on-it.  I think I was actually shooting in lower light than it appears and had the shutter open too long, but anyway, it’s a big learning experience!

And I will leave you with a wonderful set of verses I learned at camp this week (yep, I’ll be copying and pasting from BibleGateway.com, because it’s past midnight and I still have camp-laundry to dry before I go to bed).

20Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, Prête l’oreille à mes discours.

21Qu’ils ne s’éloignent pas de tes yeux; Garde-les dans le fond de ton coeur;

26Considère le chemin par où tu passes, Et que toutes tes voies soient bien réglées;

27N’incline ni à droite ni à gauche, Et détourne ton pied du mal.

Proverbes 4:20-27

(Merci, Mam!)

Heat Wave

This week has been very, very hot.  If you’ve managed to survive it, you know how hot I mean.  And so, in the spirit of sharing how we cooled off, I give you pool pictures – not from our pool, but from Mam & Pap’s baby pool.

Kate is a real water baby.  I’ve already lost count of the number of times she’s been in the pool.  She was a bit reluctant the first few times, but now she loves to get into the water (86 degrees F makes it pretty easy) and splash around with us.

Kate’s cousins gave me some pretty good stuff to photograph – they had a ton of fun running and jumping into the pool, which was great for me, too!

Of course, at some point it was time to get out of the pool.  Arielle was nice and calm about it, but Kate … not so much.

Seconds after I snapped the picture above, Kate toppled backwards under the picnic table and bumped her face on the right leg.  Not funny.  But everything ended alright and she escaped with only a *tiny* purplish mark on her cheek.

Other family news and points of interest …

  • Pap (Dan’s dad, for those of you who are not familiar with our family) has been home with a herniated disc.  Please pray that it would heal soon.
  • We’ve recently found out that a fellow moms at church has melanoma – please pray for her.  Kate was very disturbed when she saw our surprise and dismay at the news.  She is very bright and very sensitive, and we had to change the subject pretty quickly because she was acting sad.  Wow, what an amazing little heart.
  • Mam came over recently to help us paint our room/play with Kate while we painted – Thank you, all three of us appreciated your visit very much!
  • Kate is adding words to her vocabulary daily.  Here are some recent ones: chapeau (ah-po), pois (pah) and mur (meu).  Yeah, odd choice of words, but very nice to hear.  She’s also getting very good at saying “bye” when we finish a phone call or when someone is leaving, and has said amen (ah-mi) a few times at the end of prayers.  She also knows what monkey (in English) means – she say “ah-ah-ah” (her monkey sound) for both ‘monkey’ and ‘singe’.

Happy Saturday!
